The St. Louis Blues won’t play again until Jan. 29 because of the All-Star break. They might want to see if they can amend their schedule. Everything seems to be going right for the Blues lately and Monday’s 3-1 victory was no exception.
Coming off of a 27-save shutout against the Toronto Maple Leafs, goaltender Brian Elliott was challenged sparingly as he faced just 18 shots on goal, including 10 over the final 40 minutes. Matt Duchene was the only player to beat him tonight and that was partially due to a bad turnover:
The game was tied going into the first intermission, but that didn’t last long as Jaden Schwartz capitalized on a power-play opportunity just 32 seconds into the frame:

St. Louis has now won seven of its last eight contests and it got a consolation point in its loss over that stretch. With a 29-13-4 record, the Blues are in position to make a serious challenge for the Central Division title after the break.
Colorado finished its road trip with a 1-2-2 record, dropping to 19-18-10 this season. The Avalanche are on the outside looking in on the Wild Card race, but they have a game against Boston on Wednesday, giving them one more opportunity to enter the break on a positive note.
