For just the third time season - remember, it’s the middle of January - the Edmonton Oilers have won on the road. It took a 3-2 shootout result against the Florida Panthers on Saturday to end the skid, which had reached 14 games, according to Sportsnet Stats on Twitter.

Nail Yakupov, shooting first for Edmonton, scored the lone goal of the deciding skills competition. He fooled Roberto Luongo with a head fake and nice move to the forehand. While Yakupov, the first overall pick in 2012, gets the shootout winner, he has still only registered one goal since Dec. 9 - a span of 19 games.

As for the Connor McDavid sweepstakes, the Oilers join the Sabres - both bottom dwellers in the NHL’s overall standings - at 31 points.
