Canucks, Miller record shutouts on back-to-back nights

The Vancouver Canucks needed goals and needed wins.

This five-game road trip has brought them to Philadelphia to face the Flyers and Carolina to play the Hurricanes, so that’s pretty much a perfect remedy for what was ailing the Pacific Division team.

The Canucks shut out the Flyers on Thursday. Then they kept the Hurricanes off the score board on Friday.

Ryan Miller was in net for both of those starts, and he was sharp against Carolina, especially in the first period, turning aside the 12 shots he faced, when the team in front of him had difficulties getting up to speed playing in back-to-back nights.

They finally got their legs, scoring three times in the second period on their way to a 3-0 victory.

There were some scary moments for both teams in that second period. Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner went to the dressing room after falling awkwardly into the end boards. He did return. Canucks defenseman Frank Corrado took a puck to the face and also went to the dressing room, but he, too, returned to the game.

However, there was some bad news for the Canucks. According to Dan Murphy of Sportsnet, center Brad Richardson was seen on crutches after the game.

Here’s an example of Miller’s work (and a nifty through-the-legs pass from Carolina’s Alexander Semin):
