Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Olli Maatta will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery tomorrow the club announced.
Maatta has not played since a Dec. 6 game against the Ottawa Senators. He attempted a rehab program, but it was determined that surgery was the best option the team said in a release.
Maatta has battled the mumps and had a cancerous tumor removed this season.
He had one goal and eight assists in 20 games.
