The Boston Bruins escaped Pittsburgh and a clash against the Penguins with a 3-2 overtime victory, with the winning goal having to be subject to a review.

Patrice Bergeron got credit for the winning goal, his second of the night, as he had the deflection right in front of the Pittsburgh net. The win ends a three-game losing streak for the struggling Bruins, a team that was ripped by Charlie Jacobs, the son of owner Jeremy Jacobs, on Tuesday.

From the NHL’s Situation Room blog, on the winning goal:

At 2:43 of overtime in the Boston Bruins/Pittsburgh Penguins game, video review was inconclusive in determining whether the puck hit glove or stick before entering the Pittsburgh net. Both the glove and stick were at or below the height of the crossbar. The referee’s call on the ice was a good goal. Because video review was inconclusive, the referee’s call on the ice stands. Good goal Boston. According to Rule 38.4 (vi) “The determining factor is where the puck makes contact with the stick in relation to the crossbar. If the puck makes contact with the portion of the stick that is at or below the level of the crossbar and enters the goal, this goal shall be allowed.”

The Penguins appeared to take the lead on the Bruins early in the second period, however the goal was immediately waved off due to what the official said was incidental contact with Boston goalie Tuukka Rask.
