The St. Louis Blues announced that they have activated Brian Elliott (knee) from the injured reserve list.

With Elliott back, he figures to resume his duties as the team’s starting goaltender, but the Blues’ goaltending situation is still somewhat unclear. They signed Martin Brodeur during Elliott’s absence, which means they now have three healthy goaltenders on their roster.

Brodeur’s starts have been a mixed bag, but he posted a 16-save shutout against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. He now has a 2.63 GAA and .904 save percentage in six contests with St. Louis. Meanwhile, Jake Allen has surrendered nine goals over his last two starts, giving him a 2.76 GAA and .899 save percentage in 19 games this season.

Even if the Blues now see Brodeur as a preferable option to serve as Elliott’s backup over Allen, it wouldn’t necessarily settle the issue. Allen, 24, would still need to be placed on waivers in order to be sent to the minors and the Blues would be in danger of losing him given his potential and reasonable $800,000 annual cap hit.

The news on the injury front wasn’t all good for St. Louis. Chris Porter suffered a leg injury during Monday’s contest and has been placed on the injured reserve list. He will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
