P.K. Subban thinks brother Jordan will be ‘the best of all of us’

The Vancouver Canucks must be hoping P.K. Subban is as good at talent evaluation as he is at hockey.

You see, the Canucks drafted Subban’s younger brother, Jordan, with the 115th overall pick in the 2013 draft, and here’s what P.K. said in a recent New Yorker profile:

“Jordan’s going to be the best of all of us.”

There’s one more Subban brother, Malcolm, a goalie who was drafted 24th overall in 2012 by the Boston Bruins.

As for Jordan, he currently plays for the OHL’s Belleville Bulls. In 30 games this season, the 19-year-old defenseman has 27 points, his 13 goals being the most of any OHL blue-liner.

What Jordan lacks is P.K.'s size. The former is listed at five-foot-nine and 175 pounds, while the latter stands six feet and weighs 217 pounds. The NHL may be more accessible to undersized players than it has been in the past, but big and fast still beats small and fast.

It was that undersized frame that made Jordan a fourth-round pick in the draft, unlike P.K., who went in the second round.

Nor was Jordan one of the 10 defensemen invited to Team Canada’s upcoming World Juniors camp. P.K., of course, won two gold medals for Canada at the juniors, in 2008 and 2009.

So despite the encouraging words of his older star brother, it seems Jordan still has quite a hill to climb, at least as far as turning doubters into believers is concerned.

At the very least, he should have a good opportunity in the Canucks organization, which 1) is lacking in quality blue-line prospects and 2) has veterans like Kevin Bieksa, 33, and Dan Hamhuis, 31, approaching, if not already past, their best-before dates.
