Arizona Coyotes’ forward Tobias Rieder helped erase an early 1-0 Oilers lead scoring twice, shorthanded, in a 58-second span Monday night.
With Coyotes’ captain Shane Doan off for roughing, Rieder, originally an Edmonton Oilers draft pick (114th overall in 2011), doubled his goal totals for the season.
Rieder’s two goals were impressive, but came well shy of the NHL record for fastest consecutive shorthanded goals by one player.
He did however set a record for fastest shorthanded goals scored by a rookie.

Rieder was traded by the Oilers to the Coyotes before ever playing a game for Edmonton.
In March 2013 the Oilers sent Rieder to the Coyotes for Kale Kessy.
Kessey, the Coyotes fourth-round pick in 2011 (111th overall), has yet to appear in an NHL game.
Rieder now has four goals and seven points in 15 games this season.
