The Syracuse Crunch hosted (and defeated) the Utica Comets in the AHL’s Frozen Dome Classic on Saturday, setting a new attendance record for an indoor professional ice hockey game in the process.
By drawing 30,715 fans to Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome, the AHL broke a record set in 1996. The Tampa Bay Lightning packed in 28,138 fans to their playoff game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Tropicana Field, as NHL.com points out.
It’s the second largest single-game crowd in AHL history, ranking behind the 45,653 people who attended a Jan. 6, 2012 outdoor game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
