Following news that Adam McQuaid would be out 6-8 weeks with a broken thumb, the Bruins made another adjustment to their patchwork defense on Thursday by recalling Zach Trotman from AHL Providence.

From the club:

Trotman is expected to join the Bruins for their 11:00 am practice at TD Garden on Thursday and travel with the team on their upcoming trip to Columbus.

Trotman has skated in nine games for Boston this season, notching two assists, with one coming against the Ottawa Senators on November 1 and other against the Minnesota Wild on October 28. In his NHL career, Trotman has appeared in 11 games for Boston.

Prior to the McQuaid injury, Boston was already without the services of defensemen Zdeno Chara (knee) and David Warsofsky (groin); Kevan Miller (shoulder) is cleared to play but has yet to return to the lineup.

Should Miller be unable to play Friday against Columbus, Boston could be rolling with a defense comprised of Trotman, Dennis Seidenberg, Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug, Matt Bartkowski and Joe Morrow.
