The New Jersey Devils shuffled the backup goalie deck on Monday, sending Keith Kinkaid back to AHL Albany while recalling veteran Scott Clemmensen.

Kinkaid, who hoped to get his first NHL start following an early-November recall, heads back to Albany with just two relief appearances of Cory Schneider on his resume, a grand total of 27 minutes played.

Those 27 minutes are just 10 fewer than Schneider’s new backup, Scott Clemmensen, has played this season -- like Kinkaid, Clemmensen is also looking for his first start of the year, as head coach Peter DeBoer has gone with Schneider in all 18 contests so far.

New Jersey’s franchise record for consecutive start to open a season in 19, set by Martin Brodeur in 2001-02.

The Devils next play tomorrow night in Winnipeg.
