The Chicago Blackhawks will have to play most of tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars shorthanded after they lost defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk in the first period. He was hit in the leg by Trevor Daley’s shot and is done for the night, per the Chicago Tribune’s Chris Kuc and the team’s Twitter feed.

Van Riemsdyk is playing in his first season with Chicago after spending three years with the University of New Hampshire. He’s been averaging 14:11 minutes per contest.

The 23-year-old defenseman initially appeared to score his first career goal on Nov. 9, but it was later credited to Kris Versteeg. It still was his first point though.

He’s the younger brother of Toronto Maple Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk.
