Steven Stamkos cleanly beat Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard with a top shelf rocket shot early in the second period, but it went in and out of the net so quickly that it initially didn’t count. Play continued, but once they had a chance to review the shot, it became clear that stamkos had netted his 10th goal of the season.

You can see Stamkos’ marker below:

The NHL cited Rule 78.6 as the reason why there wasn’t an immediate stoppage in play to review the goal. It states, “When a team scores an apparent goal that is not seen by the on-ice officials and play continues, the play shall be reviewed by the Video Goal Judge at the next stoppage of play. If the goal is confirmed by video review, the clock (including penalty time clocks, if applicable) is re-set to the time the goal was scored.”

Stamkos is the fourth player to reach the 10-goal mark this season after Corey Perry, Rick Nash, and Tyler Seguin.
