Video: Monahan nets OT winner, leads Calgary over Washington

Sean Monahan netted the overtime winner as the Flames edged the Washington Capitals 4-3 Tuesday night.

With the win, the Flames improve to an impressive 6-2-0 on the road this season while the Capitals have now lost five straight and six of seven.

Nicklas Backstrom opened the scoring re-directing an Alex Ovechkin shot past Jonas Hiller. With his assist, Ovechkin passed Peter Bondra as the franchise’s all-time leader in points (826).

Ovechkin needed just 691 games to reach the milestone. Bondra set the mark in 961 games over 14 seasons in Washington.

Marcus Johansson and Joel Ward had the other goals for the Capitals (4-6-2). Braden Holtby made 19 saves while seeing his record drop to 3-3-2 on the season.

Ovechkin also had a questionable hit on Flames forward Curtis Glencross in the second period:

Lance Bouma, Mark Giordano and Markus Granlund had the other Flames (8-4-2) goals. Hiller made 31 saves to improve to 6-2-1.
