The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday that defenseman Stuart Percy has been assigned to its’ American Hockey League affiliate.

Percy, 21, surprised many by making the NHL club out of training camp.

He had three assists and two penalty minutes in seven regular season games with the Maple Leafs.

The Oakville, Ontario native made his NHL debut on Oct. 8 against the Montreal Canadiens.

Toronto has played its’ last two games with seven defensemen in the lineup. The rookie was averaging 18:14 in time on ice this season.

Originally a first round selection of the Maple Leafs (25th overall in 2011), Percy had 25 points and 30 penalty minutes in 71 games with the Toronto Marlies last season in the AHL - his first year playing professional hockey.
