Hard-luck Booth (broken foot) to miss next four weeks

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before, but David Booth is on the shelf.

Again.

On Monday, the Leafs announced that Booth would miss at least the next four weeks with a broken foot, suffered while blocking a shot in an exhibition win over Buffalo on Sunday.

The injury is borderline cruel given all the 29-year-old wanted to do this year was, y’know, not suffer an injury.

“Staying healthy,” is what Booth said his main objective was, per CP. “This is my first summer in a while that I’ve been able to stay healthy and train hard and have a good training camp. That’s the first goal.”

A former 30-goal scorer, Booth’s career has been derailed by a myriad of injuries though his most recent setbacks were of the lower-body variety, missing a boatload of time with Vancouver to ankle and groin ailments. As such, he appeared in just 78 of 130 games over the last two seasons, though a few of those came as he sat as a healthy scratch (he also had a conditioning assignment with AHL Utica.)

Booth signed a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Leafs in late July.

In other Leafs news, David Clarkson has suffered a fractured orbital bone, but it won’t require any surgery and he won’t miss any significant time. Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle said he could be back by the end of the week.
