HBO confirmed that it is severing ties with the NHL regarding the “24/7" series, but many noted that this didn’t mean the league couldn’t run behind-the-scenes documentaries without their skilled partner.

That indeed sounds like it will be the case, as the NHL said that they’ll announce a new partner (and plan) on Sept. 23 at Nationals Park:

Rights issues can be tricky, but one would guess that whatever series might not be called “24/7,” as HBO produces documentaries under that title for a variety of other events, most notably boxing.

While matching or even topping HBO’s production values could be a tall order, plenty of NHL fans are likely relieved to hear that they might get some rare glimpses into the daily lives of hockey figures next season. We might get a better idea of how that might work on Sept. 23.
