Red Wings extend tryout offer to Raphael Diaz

RaphaelDiaz2

Raphael Diaz hasn’t been able to secure a contract this summer, but the Detroit Red Wings are interested in giving him a shot to make their team and they might not be the only ones, according to MLive.com.

Detroit has extended a training camp invite to the 28-year-old defenseman, although he has other options and consequently hasn’t responded yet to Red Wings GM Ken Holland’s offer.

The Red Wings have six blueliners inked to one-way contracts and still have to re-sign restricted free agent Danny DeKeyser. If DeKeyser holds out, then Diaz would present them with a fallback option while the negotiations continue, although it’s worth adding that DeKeyser is still confident that he’ll be able to reach an understanding with Detroit.

Putting that aside, Diaz also shoots right-handed, which is something the Red Wings have been looking to add all summer.

Diaz had two goals and 15 points in 63 games with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, and Vancouver Canucks last season.
