Calgary Flames prospect Sam Bennett isn’t letting his general manager’s words slow him down.

The first-round pick (fourth overall) from June’s draft has been in Colorado all week working out with NHL veterans such as Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

Bennett posted a picture on his Instagram Saturday alongside Crosby with the caption “What an week in Colorado training with the best”.

Flames GM Brad Treliving doesn’t have high hopes for Bennett to make his team this year.

On Tuesday, Treliving told Sportsnet, “There are a lot of guys who can play in the league. But [the real questions are] can you help the team, and is it good for you?” I would be shocked [if Bennett sticks]. He will have to come in here and show beyond a shadow of a doubt that, not only is he ready to be here, but this is what’s best for him.”

Bennett had 91 points in 57 games during his second season with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League in 2013-14.
