After spending two seasons with HC Ambri-Piotta of Switzerland’s top league, it looks like Jason Williams is attempting a North American comeback. The AHL Oklahoma City Barons announced that they have signed him to a minor-league contract.
The Barons are the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers.
Williams is a veteran of 455 NHL games and had 94 goals and 227 points over the course of his time with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
He was part of the Red Wings’ 2002 Stanley Cup championship and recorded 21 goals and 58 points in 80 games at his height in 2005-06. The 33-year-old forward had 46 points in 47 games in his first season with Ambri-Piotta before scoring eight goals and registering 10 assists in 32 Swiss contests last season.
