Wings re-sign prospects Callahan, Nestrasil

The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with a pair of AHL Grand Rapids farmhands, inking Mitch Callahan and Andrej Nestrasil to one-year deals.

Callahan (pictured) was a sixth-round pick in 2009 that made his NHL debut for Detroit last season, spending most of his time with the Griffins. The 22-year-old had a good year in the American League, finishing second on the Griffins in goals (26) while registering five points in eight Calder Cup playoff games.

Nestrasil, 23, was a third-round pick in the same draft year as Callahan and while he’s yet to make his big-league debut, he too had a successful campaign in Grand Rapids last season. The Czech winger scored 16 goals and 36 points in 70 games, and chipped in with four goals in 10 postseason contests.
