After being taken with the second overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Sam Reinhart will be a serious contender for a roster spot with the Buffalo Sabres during training camp. With that in mind, it only made sense for the Sabres to get his contract negotiations out of the way.

Buffalo announced that Reinhart has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract. The Kootenay Ice captain was the WHL Player of the Year after scoring 36 goals and 105 points in 60 games last season.

“We are very excited to have Sam under contract,” said Sabres GM Tim Murray. “We look forward to watching him develop and become an important part of our organization in the future.”

Reinhart is perhaps best known for his high hockey IQ and is capable of making an impact in a lot of different situations. Hockey’s in his blood as his father, Paul, is a retired NHL defenseman and his two older brothers, Max Reinhart and Griffin Reinhart, were drafted by the Calgary Flames and New York Islanders respectively.
