The San Jose Sharks have signed defenseman Taylor Fedun to a one-year, two-way contract reportedly worth $600,000 in the NHL and $200 in the minors.

Fedun, 26, is perhaps best known for the broken leg he suffered in 2011 during a race for the puck with Minnesota forward Eric Nystrom (video). The injury, and others like it, eventually led the NHL to adopt hybrid icing.

Fedun missed a year rehabbing and spent the next two seasons with AHL Oklahoma City, with four NHL games (in which he scored twice) for the Oilers mixed in.

Fedun probably won’t replace Dan Boyle in San Jose, but he does shoot right and he did put up 38 points (10 G, 28 A) for the Barons last season.
