The Vancouver Canucks are busy today. In addition to trading Ryan Kesler and Jason Garrison, they’ve also acquired tough winger Derek Dorsett from the New York Rangers for the 85th selection in today’s draft, a pick that was acquired from the Ducks in the Kesler deal.
Dorsett, 27, had four goals and four assists, plus 128 penalty minutes, in 51 games for the Rangers in 2013-14. He has one year remaining on his contract (cap hit $1.63 million) before he can become an unrestricted free agent.
Dorsett will join a Vancouver team that lacked forward depth this past season. The Rangers, meanwhile, will gain some much-needed cap space, with a number of key free agents requiring new contracts.
