On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets announced that forward Jim Slater underwent successful hip labrum surgery, and is expected make a full recovery in time to participate in training camp.
For Slater, here’s hoping this marks a return to full health.
The 31-year-old forward, who has spent his entire nine-year NHL career with the Thrashers/Jets organization, is coming off a forgettable 2013-14 campaign in which he made just 27 appearances due to sports hernia surgery in November, a procedure that sidelined him for four months and cost him 52 games.
When healthy, Slater can be a fairly effective depth forward. He had a good year in Winnipeg during the 2011-12 campaign, scoring a career-high 21 points in 78 games while averaging nearly 15 minutes a night.
The former first-round pick is headed into the last of a three-year, $4.8 million extension signed with the Jets in 2012.
