Report: Sharks extend Robinson, might add more duties

San Jose Sharks v Phoenix Coyotes

Larry Robinson

Christian Petersen

Hall of Fame defenseman Larry Robinson will be serving as an associate coach with the San Jose Sharks for another three seasons after agreeing to an extension, according to CSN Bay Area. His job might not be limited to his coaching role though.

San Jose is also reportedly talking about making him a consultant for future trades and other roster decisions. He might end up traveling with the Sharks less as he takes on more front office duties and serve as an “eye in the sky” over the course of games rather than being behind the bench.

When Robinson, 62, joined the San Jose organization in 2012, the hope was that his extensive history of postseason success would help the Sharks end their streak of underperforming in the playoffs.

Obviously, the Sharks are still struggling to gain any traction in the playoffs, but Robinson has been credited with developing the team’s young defenseman and should aide 29-year-old Brent Burns as he shifts back to the blueline in 2014-15.
