Video: Blackhawks denied a goal on wild scramble

Screen Shot 2014-05-21 at 6.00.06 PM

The Chicago Blackhawks were buzzing in the first period, and could’ve easily been ahead of the L.A. Kings by a pair of goals or more in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final.

Peter Regin appeared to have a tap-in into a wide open net during a scramble involving Kings’ goalie Jonathan Quick, but L.A. forward Tyler Toffoli somehow managed to get his stick on the puck just at the last possible second, as it was bouncing around on the goal line, to keep it out. The play was reviewed, but called no goal.

As wild a play as that was, the Blackhawks wouldn’t be deterred. Defenseman Nick Leddy, sent in on a partial breakaway thanks to a pass from Duncan Keith, burned past Kings’ blue liner Matt Greene, then went top corner on the backhand - just over a minute after Chicago appeared to open the scoring.
