The Phoenix Coyotes have re-upped with defenseman Chris Summers -- their first-round pick (29th overall) at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft -- on a two-year deal, the club announced on Monday.

Per CapGeek, the deal is worth $1.2 million for an average annual cap hit of $600,000.

Summers, 26, has taken a while to break through at the NHL level but seemed to work his way into the mix last season, scoring his first-ever NHL goals (two) while appearing in 18 games and averaging nearly 15 minutes a night.

“I definitely wanted to come back and be a part of the Coyotes,” Summers said, per the team’s Twitter feed. “I’ve very happy we worked something out and I’m happy we worked it out so quickly in the offseason.

“It puts my mind and my family at ease.”

Summers played last season on a one-year, $550,000 deal.
