Video: Rangers denied goal on controversial call

No goal

The Philadelphia Flyers might have caught a break early in the second period of their game against New York.

Rangers defenseman John Moore fired a shot at Flyers goaltender Steve Mason, which he stopped and initially appeared to smoother. The puck quickly trickled behind him though and replays suggest he never had the puck in his control. However, the whistle was blown just before the Rangers knocked the loose puck in the back of the net.

The non-goal was not eligible for review.

The New York Rangers have a 3-1 lead going into the third period, so this controversial call might prove to be moot. However, the Flyers had a 7-22-2 record in the regular season when trailing after 40 minutes, which was the fifth best winning percentage in the league. The Flyers also tied for second place in third period goals (90) despite ranking eighth in goals overall (233).
