Video: Blues’ Lapierre called for boarding Brookbank from behind

Screen Shot 2014-04-21 at 7.28.53 PM

Maxim Lapierre was handed only a minor penalty for boarding when he drove Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Sheldon Brookbank from behind into the glass in the second period of Game 3.

The incident occurred with 12:50 remaining in the second period. Brookbank remained in the game for Chicago, which was in search of a win to get back in this best-of-seven series.

Brookbank was also inserted into Chicago’s lineup because of the three-game suspension to Brent Seabrook, who was given the ban after an late and high hit on Blues center David Backes in Game 2.

For Lapierre, this isn’t the first time this season he’s hit an opposing player in the numbers, driving them from behind into the boards. In October, San Jose Sharks’ defenseman Dan Boyle was taken off the ice on a stretcher when Lapierre hit him from behind.

Lapierre was given a five-game suspension as a result.
