Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier will have surgery to repair a sports hernia on Wednesday. He’s expected to be fully recovered for training camp.
From TSN.ca:
Bernier missed five games in March due to the injury.
He then aggravated the problem April 3 against the Boston Bruins and finished the season on the sidelines.
“I felt pretty good,” he said. “It was sore but my range, my stretching was fine. I think a lot of players play through that.”
Bernier actually missed the last four games with what the club called an MCL strain, though clearly he had other issues as well.
The 25-year-old was excellent this season, finishing with a 26-19-7 record and .923 save percentage. Many have argued the Leafs would have made the playoffs if Bernier had stayed healthy.
In a related story, James Reimer probably won’t be back with Toronto next season.
James Reimer clearly believes he's played his last game for the #leafs. “I was just trying to come in here and have a last memorable game."
