Islanders lose Clutterbuck (upper body) for the night

San Jose Sharks v New York Islanders

during the first period of an NHL hockey game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on March 14, 2014 in Uniondale, New York.

Paul Bereswill

The New York Islanders announced that winger Cal Clutterbuck’s Tuesday ended early thanks to an upper-body injury.

It’s unclear how Clutterbuck was injured (feel free to share details in the comments), but he seemed aware that something was awry during the game:

The Ottawa Senators may be relieved to see the 26-year-old off the ice. Clutterbuck is one of the hardest (or at least most frequent) hitters in the league; He came into Tuesday fourth in the NHL with 268 hits in 72 games played.
