Video: Ex-Hawk Mayers ‘disappointed’ in response to hit on Toews

Chicago Blackhawks v Pittsburgh Penguins

PITTSBURGH, PA - MARCH 30: Jonathan Toews #19 of the Chicago Blackhawks skates off the ice after being checked into the corner by Brooks Orpik #44 of the Pittsburgh Penguins (not pictured) in the second period during the game at Consol Energy Center on March 30, 2014 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From CSN Chicago:

“You definitely have to protect your better players.”

Meanwhile...

It’s always a passionate debate -- to respond or not to respond.

Clean hit by Brooks Orpik or not, clearly Mayers -- a guy who racked up 1,200 PIM during his NHL career -- felt the ‘Hawks should’ve done something to stick up for their captain.

Some will agree with Mayers, while others will say the best revenge would’ve been beating the Penguins on the scoreboard.
