Stars bring ’12 first-rounder Faksa into fold, assigned to AHL

RadekFaksa

Now that his junior season is done, Radek Faksa is on his way to the pros.

Faksa, who just wrapped his OHL season with Sudbury, has been assigned to Dallas’ AHL affiliate in Texas, the club announced on Wednesday. The 20-year-old split this last season between Sudbury and Kitchener, scoring 48 points in 59 games and will head to Texas for the second time in his career, having made a brief two-game cameo for the club during the 2012-13 campaign.

Faksa, originally from the Czech Republic, is a big-bodied center -- 6-foot-3, 210 pounds -- that was taken ahead of fellow forwards Zemgus Girgensons, Tom Wilson, Tomas Hertl and Teuvo Teravainen at the ’12 draft. His selection represented something of a theme for the Stars as, a year later, they took another big-bodied European forward in Valeri Nichushkin, who currently sits 10th among rookie scorers in the NHL this season with 32 points.
