On Tuesday, the NHL announced that three forwards -- Boston’s Jarome Iginla, Detroit’s Gustav Nyquist and Philly’s Claude Giroux -- were named stars for the month of March.

Iginla, the first star, led all players with 13 goals while boasting an outrageous shooting percentage of 31, helping the Bruins to a 15-1-1 record. All told, Iginla finished with 17 points in 17 games and tied Guy LaFleur for 24th all-time in goals, with 560.

Nyquist, the second star, scored 12 goals and 18 points as Detroit went 7-6-2 and remained alive in the Eastern Conference playoff chase. Nyquist, who didn’t even start this season with the Wings, now leads all NHL skaters with 22 goals since Jan. 20, and is in the midst of a nine-game point streak.

Giroux, the third star, led all skaters with 15 assists and 21 points last month as the Flyers went 9-3-2 and put themselves in great shape for a top-three finish in the Metropolitan Division. Giroux was a model of consistency throughout March, posting at least one point in 11 of 14 games, including seven multi-point performances and three three-point efforts.
