Earlier today, we wrote about Colorado’s reliance (over-reliance?) on goalie Semyon Varlamov, who’s made an NHL-high 1,715 saves this season in helping the Avalanche to their first playoff berth since 2010.
Turns out Avs head coach Patrick Roy addressed the issue of all those shots following practice this morning. Fast forward to 4:50 of the video below to see what he says:
In a nutshell, he doesn’t think it’s a big deal. In fact, as an ex-goalie (and a pretty good one), he thinks seeing so many shots each game may be helping Varlamov stay focused.
Only four teams -- Washington, Buffalo, Ottawa, and Toronto -- have surrendered more shots per game than the Avs (32.8).
