The Washington Capitals signed free agent goalie Pheonix Copley to a two-year entry-level contract on Wednesday.
The interestingly named netminder spent the last two seasons playing for Michigan Tech. He collected a 10-13-6 record with .911 save percentage this season after going 8-15-1 with a .900 mark in 2012-13.
The 22-year-old brings some decent size and adds some depth to the Capitals system, making this a low-risk move, according to the Washington Post:
The addition of Copley is a low-risk move that could result in another home-grown netminder coming through the pipeline behind Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer, but at this stage it’s difficult to gauge where he projects long term.
