Rangers sign NCAA standout Haggerty

The New York Rangers have inked R.P.I sniper Ryan Haggerty to a contract, the club announced on Wednesday.

“We have watched Ryan closely the past few years and the two things that stick out the most are: he can score, and he has gotten better every year,” Rangers assistant GM Jeff Gorton said, per Blueshirts United. “We really like Ryan’s work ethic and his drive to get better every day.”

Haggerty, 21, has spent the last three years with R.P.I after playing with the U.S. National Development Team in 2010-11 (where he was a teammate of Rangers prospect J.T. Miller). The 6-foot, 180-pound forward scored a career-high 43 points in 35 games this year, potting an impressive 28 goals in the process.

Haggerty will report directly to the Rangers -- he’s unable to join AHL Hartford because his deal was signed post-deadline.
