Martin St. Louis, picked up from the Tampa Bay Lightning in a blockbuster deal to kickoff Wednesday’s NHL trade deadline day, set up the game-winning goal for the New York Rangers on Friday.
St. Louis made a sweet cross-crease pass to Derek Stepan, who went top corner to give the Rangers a one-goal lead at the time on a late third-period power play. For St. Louis, it was his first point in a Rangers uniform, playing in his second game.
New York, trailing by a goal with less than eight minutes to go in regulation, scored three times in the final 6:36 to take a 4-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. It was part of a four-goal third-period eruption for the Rangers.
