The Nashville Predators sent David Legwand to the Detroit Red Wings in a trade that’s been confirmed by multiple sources. The Predators received Patrick Eaves, a third-round pick and a Calle Jarnkrok, according to TSN’s Gord Miller.

For Legwand, it’s a matter of going from a familiar place to another familiar place. He was the first-ever Predators draft pick (second overall in 1998) and played 956 regular season games and 47 postseason contests with that single franchise. The 33-year-old waived his no-trade clause to play for the Red Wings, which shouldn’t be too surprising being that he’s a Detroit native.

Legwand will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He brings a two-way game that may very well match what the team originally expected from injury-addled center Stephen Weiss. Losing Henrik Zetterberg to a potentially season-ending injury likely added extra incentive for the Red Wings to land Legwand.

The U.S.-born pivot has 40 points in 62 games played this season.
