Report: Henrik Sedin’s ironman streak in danger

Vancouver Canucks v Los Angeles Kings

at Staples Center on January 4, 2014 in Los Angeles, California.

Harry How

For 679 consecutive games, when the Vancouver Canucks have played, captain Henrik Sedin was in the lineup.

That might not be the case when the Canucks face Calgary tonight as Sedin suffered a rib injury during Thursday’s game, according to the Vancouver Sun. Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy added that Sedin’s chances of playing are at most 50/50.

The Canucks need Sedin right now about as much as they’ve needed him at any other point during his ironman streak. They have lost three straight contests and scored just one goal over that stretch.

With their hold on their Wild Card spot still tenuous, they need to prevent this from spiraling out of control. Playing against Calgary can certainly be a good way to end a slump, but the flip side is that it would be particularly troubling if their offensive woes continue against the Flames.
