Update: Ovechkin appears to shake off injury scare

Update: Alex Ovechkin came right out for the beginning of the second period, so it looks like his issue was as minor as it seemed random. Of course, we’ve seen players return only to decide they can’t go later on in a game (see: Zach Parise), so PHT will keep an eye on his condition.

Still, it looks like Washington Capitals fans can probably exhale.

Wednesday’s Rivalry Night match between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Capitals on NBCSN is already worth watching, but now Caps finds might be doing so with some concern. Ovechkin took a shot to his lower-body at the end of the first period and left the ice gingerly tonight.

There’s no announcement one way or another, which is understandable since the moment just happened. It could very well just be a false alarm.

If Ovechkin misses extended time, we’ll provide video of the bit of random bad luck. If not, consider it a dodged bullet for the Capitals.
