A new era for the Buffalo Sabres officially began Thursday.

But in the first game with Tim Murray as the new general manager, the Sabres fell 2-1 to the Florida Panthers in the shootout. Brad Boyes scored the equalizer for Florida in the third period, and then scored the only goal in the deciding skills competition.

“It’s tough to win with this team,” said Sabres’ goalie Jhonas Enroth afterward, as per John Vogl of the Buffalo News. Enroth is now 1-8-4 on the season.

The Sabres remain well down at the bottom of the NHL standings, with only 12 wins and 29 points in 43 games.

The club announced the hiring of Murray on Thursday morning. Based on the results this season, it would appear there is a lot of work ahead in order to set the Sabres back on a winning path.

“We judge every day, and you want to make better judgments every day versus making poor judgments,” said Murray.
