Habs healthy scratch Briere for first time this season

DannyBriere

Daniel Briere’s struggles in Montreal have hit a new low.

The veteran forward will be made a healthy scratch for Thursday’s game in St. Louis, replaced in the lineup by Ryan White. This will be the first time Briere’s been made a healthy scratch since signing a two-year, $8 million deal with the Canadiens last summer.

As we wrote earlier this morning, the Habs were hoping to see more from Briere after he played just 4:27 in a 3-1 over Phoenix on Tuesday. Head coach Michel Therrien said the decision to park Briere was ‘to make sure that we’ve got a good chance to win,” noting that Briere ‘wants to get involved more.”

Briere has just five goals and 10 points through 26 games this year and is averaging 12:38 per game — his lowest average since the 2000-01 campaign in Phoenix, when he was 23 years old.
