The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled center Jerred Smithson from the AHL Marlies.

Smithson arrives in the wake of an injury to center Trevor Smith, who broke his hand last night versus Florida and could be out a couple of months, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

The falling Leafs are also without centers Dave Bolland and Tyler Bozak, both out indefinitely with injuries.

Will all the injuries, not to mention all the team’s losses, force general manager Dave Nonis to make a trade?

From Dreger:

Nonis has been trolling the league looking for trades and admits he has had offers on James van Riemsdyk, Nazem Kadri, Jake Gardiner, Morgan Rielly and both his goalies. However, the general managers with the most interest have yet to produce anything beyond older players in return or trade packages that are not useful to the Maple Leafs in the long term.

As poorly as they’ve been playing, the Leafs are still in a playoff position, three points up on Philadelphia for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers have two games in hand, however.
