Report: Canes’ Lindholm to play for Sweden at World Juniors

Elias Lindholm is headed back to the World Juniors.

That was the word out of Sweden today as multiple reports claimed Lindholm, Carolina’s prized rookie forward, has been granted permission to play for the Swedes at the 2014 tournament, which begins on Dec. 26.

Lindholm, 19, was Carolina’s first-round pick (fifth overall) at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He made the team out of camp this year -- one of a handful of ’13 draftees to make the leap -- after spending the last two seasons with Brynas of the Swedish Hockey League.

He’s had a decent campaign thus far, but has been limited by injury and stints with AHL Charlotte. In 21 games with the ‘Canes, Lindholm has three goals and seven points.

Lindholm was a member of Team Sweden’s silver medal-winning side at the 2013 Worlds.
