The NHL’s Department of Player Safety will be busy today as they have scheduled hearings for both Tampa Bay forward Richard Panik and Ottawa Senators blueliner Jared Cowen.
Panik is in danger of being suspended after boarding Washington’s Karl Alzner in the second period of last night’s game. He’s already received a five-minute boarding major for his actions.
If you missed the incident, you can see it below:
Alex Ovechkin issued his own punishment by scoring two goals while Tampa Bay was down a man. Washington went on to earn a 6-5 shootout victory on the strength of a four-goal night by Ovechkin.
After the game, Karl Alzner reported that he was “completely fine,” according to the Washington Post.
Meanwhile, Cowen is facing a possible suspension due to what might have been an illegal hit to the head of Buffalo’s Zemgus Girgensons during Tuesday’s game.
Girgensons stayed in the contest and there wasn’t any penalty on the play.
