Rupp leaves Wild for ‘personal reasons’ (Updated)

Just four days after returning from a lengthy absence to make his season debut, Mike Rupp has left the Minnesota Wild.

On Friday, the club announced Rupp had been designated as non-roster status and took leave of the team for personal reasons. Forward Erik Haula has since been recalled from AHL Iowa to take Rupp’s place.

It’s unclear exactly what’s affecting the 33-year-old veteran. Rupp missed the first 24 games of the season dealing with a knee injury, but rejoined the club this week after a conditioning stint with Iowa and averaged 5:14 in back-to-back losses to St. Louis and Phoenix.

UPDATE

According to Mike Russo of the Minnesota Star-Tribune, Rupp suffered a death in the family and will be away from the Wild for “a few days.”
