The Battle of Alberta was really a battle of two teams trying to end their respective five-game losing streaks.

Something had to give. One of these teams was going to come away with a win. It was going to happen.

The Edmonton Oilers eventually emerged as the victorious team. Through two periods, it looked like that was going to be the Calgary Flames.

But the Oilers, down 2-0 after 40 minutes, scored four unanswered goals in the third period to beat the Flames 4-2 on the road in Calgary.

“It’s nice to be able to come back and win. When you’re not winning, it kills confidence. This gives us some of that back,” said Oilers forward Jordan Eberle, who scored Edmonton’s first goal of the evening.

Meanwhile, the sting of defeat was evident with the Flames.

They had a good run of the play through two periods, and not to mention a two-goal lead. That evaporated prior to the midway point of the third period.

“It’s unacceptable. We have no one to blame but ourselves,” said Flames forward Matt Stajan, as per the team’s Twitter account.
