Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri drew ire and plenty of criticism for a collision with Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom on Wednesday.
Here’s early video of the hit, which earned Kadri a minor penalty for goalie interference:
Backstrom, 35, tried to play through the pain but eventually made way for Josh Harding. That might sound like a blessing in disguise for Minnesota because Harding’s been so dominant, but Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston points out that the 29-year-old was feeling ill this morning. So it’s not exactly an ideal situation.
We’ll see if the NHL eventually decides if Kadri, 23, deserves supplemental discipline. The Wild also have time to enact their own form of “discipline,” too, as the game is far from over.
It appears that the Minneapolis Star-Tribune’s Michael Russo isn’t very happy with the hit, for one:
Kadri absolutely barreled him over. Not just ran him. Gave him a shot up high. Wild PP. Backstrom staying in the game
